Interpreting and Live Captioning

DRES provides both captioning and ASL-English interpretation for students with a documented hearing loss. These accommodations are available for classes, meetings with professors or classmates, and other campus life events. Request a meeting with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Access Specialist to initiate services.

For other campus community members such as staff and campus visitors, DRES can assist with coordinating interpreting and captioning services. Please have the hosting department or unit contact us at dres-interpreting@illinois.edu for interpreting, or dres-live-captioning@illinois.edu for captioning. Accommodations requested for non-students will be coordinated by DRES staff and billed to the hosting department/unit according to the rates and policies on our Non-Student Billing Page

If you already have a Usked account for regular or ongoing requests, please log in to make a new request on Usked for UIUC.

If you do not have a Usked account and need to make a one-time request, please fill out the Access Services Request form.

If you do not have a Usked account yet but anticipate making multiple (3+) requests for service during the next year, please contact us at dres-interpreting@illinois.edu to set up your account.

DRES staff will follow up if we need additional information, and you will be notified by email when the request has been filled.

Please make all requests with as much lead time as possible; at least one week for remote/virtual service, and two weeks for in-person interpreting service. All live captioning is currently being provided remotely. If you need to cancel a service, please contact dres-interpreting@illinois.edu and/or dres-live-captioning@illinois.edu as early as possible.

Since most service providers are not staff members of the University of Illinois, any Zoom meeting where accommodations are needed must allow non-authenticated users to join. Learn more about turning off domain authentication via Disable Authentication Requirements for Zoom.

If you have not confirmed that authentication is turned off before the meeting starts, your event will be delayed since interpreters and/or captioners will not be able to join, making the event inaccessible. Please contact us if you have additional questions.
